In Confederates in the Attic, a splendid book by Tony Horwitz, a real character (in all senses of the term) named Robert Lee Hodge talked about doing intense, immersive expeditions into the history of the Civil War, which he called Civil War Gasms (yes, like orgasm, only not).
The phrase has been incorporated into the lexicon, and will be used to describe the four-year-plus expeditions that we will be making between 2011 and 2015 or so...
